Tommy Fleetwood no longer an equipment free agent, signs with TaylorMade

Just a couple weeks after losing Jon Rahm to Callaway, TaylorMade has re-stocked its tour staff with another European star, signing five-time European Tour winner Tommy Fleetwood to a multiyear deal to play its clubs and golf ball.

The signing is not a surprise as the company has been hinting at it on social media recently. Still, it is one of the most significant equipment signings of the season. A free agent since Nike went out of the equipment business, Fleetwood is familiar with TaylorMade equipment. He has been playing a set of prototype irons built by the company since 2019 and has a solid relationship with Adrian Rietveld, TaylorMade’s lead technician on the European Tour before making the move to the U.S. in 2019. Fleetwood also has played a variety of TaylorMade metalwoods after becoming an equipment free agent in 2016, including currently having the company’s SIM2 driver and a pair of fairway woods in the bag.

Fleetwood, 30, turned pro in 2010 and currently sits 17th on the World Ranking. He has been a contender in majors, with three top-5 finishes including a runner-up showing at the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, where he shot a final-round 63. Fleetwood also played a prominent role at the last Ryder Cup in 2018 where he had a 4-1 record at Le Golf National in France to help Europe to a 17.5 to 10.5 victory over the U.S.

Fleetwood is scheduled to debut his new equipment at the Abu Dhabi HSBC. Here is what is expected to be in his bag:

Driver: TaylorMade SIM2 (Mitsubishi Diamana DF 70 TX), 10.5 degrees

3-wood: TaylorMade SIM2 (Mitsubishi Diamana DF 70 TX), 13.5 degrees

5-wood: TaylorMade SIM2 (Mitsubishi Diamana DF 80 TX), 19.5 degrees

Irons (3-PW): TaylorMade P7TF prototype (Project X 6.5)

Wedges: Callaway Jaws MD5 (52, 60 degrees)

Putter: Odyssey White Hot Pro
