So much of major championship golf is difficult for the average player to even grasp. Just reading the yardage of a pro scorecard places the game in a different realm. But one part we get. The ball is on the green here. The hole is over there. If great putting requires technical proficiency, it’s arguably even more reliant on perception and intuition. Few golf courses put this to a test more than Winged Foot. “The West greens don’t just tilt from back to front,” Golf Digest architecture editor Ron Whitten says in his narration of our Every Hole At Winged Foot West video, “they tumble downhill like a marble staircase.” On a golf course with 18 incredibly intricate greens, the 15th green at Winged Foot still stands apart, which we wanted even those who never set foot on the grounds to experience for themselves.—Sam Weinman
