2020 American Express tee times, viewer’s guide

News

Phil Mickelson will not only be playing in this week’s American Express—his first tournament start since the WGC-HSBC Champions in November—he will be the tournament host as the PGA Tour’s long-time stop in the California desert gets a makeover of sorts. Lefty’s charity, The Mickelson Foundation, will be the host organization while American Express has stepped up as the title sponsor, signing a five-year deal.

Played across three California courses, the former Bob Hope Classic will feature Mickelson and many other stars teeing off in a celebrity pro-am. Adam Long will be returning to defend his title, accompanied by a solid field including Rickie Fowler, Francesco Molinari, and Matthew Wolff.

Long’s walk-off birdie last year over Mickelson and Adam Hadwin was not just his first PGA Tour win, but his first professional win on any tour. It was also just his sixth PGA start. “I think of that putt pretty much every day,” Long said.

The winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points, as well as $1.206 million of the $6.7 million purse.
