After an 18-month break and an adjustment to the PGA Tour schedule, the Houston Open returns this week with a new spot on the golf calendar. It’s a new beginning for a historic event, which will be played for the final time at the Golf Club of Houston before moving to the Memorial Park Golf Course in 2020.
The purse totals $7.5 million with a winner’s share of $1.26 million and 500 FedEx Cup points up for grabs. Current FedEx Cup leader and Sanderson Farms Championship winner Sebastián Muñoz will be playing in his fourth straight tournament to start the 2019-’20 season. Muñoz went to the University of North Texas.
Cole Hammer, the No. 2-ranked amateur in the world and University of Texas sophomore made his first non-major PGA Tour start on Thursday (he played in the 2015 U.S. Open as a. 15-year-old) thanks to a sponsor’s exemption. He also successfully made the cut.
